The Series
Whiskers in the Wild is the long-form documentary series I've built around the California sea lion colony at Channel Islands Harbor. The work runs on year-round behavioral observation from the dockside studio, individual identification where possible, and seasonal pattern tracking, paired with original photography and field reporting that pulls from NOAA, the Marine Mammal Care Center network, and direct conversations with the people working in marine mammal rescue and research along this coast.
The Writing
Essays run two to three thousand words and pair original photography with behavioral context and reporting on the structural conservation issues most outlets miss. Recent pieces have covered sea lion nursing behavior at the harbor mouth, the rescue triage gap between the two nearest marine mammal care centers, and the dollar flows behind viral wildlife content. Every essay points somewhere useful, whether that's a marine mammal hotline, a public comment template, or the rescue networks doing the work below the viral surface.
